Get to know Gemini Woman
Hear from Becky Simons, Senior eCommerce Manager at Gemini Woman.

This month we chatted with Jess McCartney, who shared a little bit about herself, her role here at Venditan and her personal eCommerce interests in 2023.

Hello, Jess! Let’s get straight into it - tell us a little about yourself.

Well - I’m Jess! I’m originally from Buxton in Derbyshire (where the water is from) and I’m predominantly an Account Manager. It’s a role I have been in for eight years now but I also have two years of project management experience, most recently in digital project management. This paired with my previous experience in eCommerce, has really helped me hit the ground running at Venditan.

I’m still a freshie here though, the end of July will round off my first six months with the company.

What’s one thing that people may not know about you?

I used to play the cello in an orchestra called Celle Con Carne…

What does your average day at Venditan look like?

No two days are the same really, particularly in my line of work as it is led by the needs and requirements of the clients that I look after. This is why I love my job so much though, as there’s always a new challenge around the corner, and with that comes something new to learn.

Eight years in account management will have given you plenty of those learning opportunities. If someone was just starting out in the role, what’s the best piece of advice that you could give them?

I would tell them to really spend the time getting to know each of their clients, both personally and professionally (business requirements and objectives), so that they can really understand how best to help them succeed.

Paired with keeping up great communication with them and your colleagues, you’ll ensure that everyone is on the same page. That’s always a great starting point for success.

Are there any eCommerce or retail trends that you find particularly interesting in 2023?

Yes! Belief-driven buying.

More and more consumers are choosing brands that align with their beliefs, they’re choosing principle over product.

With everything going on in the world at the moment, people are becoming more aware of their environment. As a result, they are making purchasing decisions based on companies' morals, beliefs and public displays of support.

Give us an example of something you have learned since joining the team here at Venditan.

How lovely our clients are! And not just my clients, I’ve spoken with them all over the past six months and they are a real pleasure to work with - we are very lucky.

What does a typical weekend look like in the life of Jess?

I like to keep active on the weekend with plenty of good food involved along the way! I’ll be doing anything from going on a good hike to something completely random like ice skating.

I’ve just moved back to the north from Scotland so I’m currently getting to know the Manchester area again in my spare time.

Final thoughts

And finally, to the future! What are your long-term career goals?

My long-term career goal is to become an OG (original) Venditan expert! Eventually, I would like to move into a managerial or leadership role.
